Osteopathy & Reformer Pilates in Maidstone, Kent
It is safe to have both Osteopathy treatments and take part in Pilates when you are pregnant. I ensure that you feel safe and supported through any treatment programme or class. This is a special time for you, but I also understand that at times it can also feel overwhelming as your body changes, and you try to adapt.
When you’re pregnant, your body is going through significant rapid changes, and your centre of gravity will shift as your bump gets bigger. Another big change is the production of the hormone, Relaxin, designed to increase blood flow and relax the ligaments in the pelvic region.
These notable physical changes can impact on our muscles and ligaments, and how we feel in ourselves. The gentle, non-invasive Osteopathy techniques can really help to relieve some of those tensions and stresses on mum’s body, and therefore promoting an improved sense of wellbeing.
The physical exertion on our bodies during birth, including the rapid widening of the birth canal, and immediate shift in the centre of gravity post-birth, can also put a lot of strain on the body.
I treat postnatal or postpartum women (from six weeks). I check core stability and assess the extent of any abdominal separation (Diastasis Recti). I devise a treatment plan or an exercise plan that works for each patient to restore the core to its optimum strength. I support you every step of the way because I know how the changes to our bodies after birth can sometimes alter how we feel about ourselves and our sense of wellbeing.
